Epic West Coast Vacay

Michael and I were looking forward to this trip for months! It was so fun to finally be able to make it happen. This is definately the biggest trip we've taken just as a couple. It was a lot of driving (about 3000 miles) but we saw some amazing sights!

On day one, we headed from Provo to Sacramento to stay with Mike's aunt Shawna and her husband David. We stopped at Lake Tahoe on the way there because we couldn't miss seeing the views and it only added about 40 minutes to our trip. We wanted to rent a pedal boat, but as you can see in the pictures, it was way too windy! There were waves that were CRASHING on the shore.

Shawna and David were great hosts! David made us a delicious meal of pork roll and sweet potatoes then he gave us a tour of the refrigeration plant he runs.

The next morning we headed to San Francisco. It took about 3 hours to get into the city with traffic. We drove into the city on the Bay Bridge and headed straight to Alamo Square to see the Painted Ladies made famous by Full House. We spent a little time walking around Golden Gate Park to view the gardens. There was people doing Tai Chi near the Japanese Gardens which was really interesting. There are so many cool museums there that I wish we would have had more time to explore. We then headed to Fisherman's Wharf. We were able to park at a nice hotel with the Best Parking App and only had to spend $11 for five hours of parking which was a really great deal compared to the other options! We walked along Pier 39 and ate Sourdough at Boudin for Lunch. We then, of course had to head to Ghirardelli Square for chocolate! We shared a Salted Caramel Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae. Oh. My. Gosh. It was to die for! We drove over the Golden Gate Bridge then pulled over at Vista Point to take pictures. We walked about half way across as well. Mike was in Civil Engineer Heaven. He appreciates a good structure when he sees one;) We drove a loop around Mount Tamalpais State Park. It was so beautiful around that area. We wanted to stop at Muir Woods in the park, but all of the parking lots were full and we didn't have a lot of time.

The next day we headed towards the Oregan Coast and drove through the Humboldt Redwood State Park along the Avenue of the Giants. The forest was so so beautiful and of course the trees were giant! Driving along the coast was also amazing. The sun shining on the water was breathtaking. It was such a long drive to our campsite, but it was pretty!

When we woke up at our campsite the next morning it started raining really hard, so we had to quickly pack up our tent and eat our breakfast in the car. We took a short hike from our campsite to see the sand dunes nearby. We drove a few miles North to Heceta Head Lighthouse. We took the 1/2 mile hike up to the lighthouse and got to take a small tour to learn the history of the lighthouse. It was fascinating! The views of the ocean were awesome too!

Friday we spent the day in Seattle. We rode the ferry from Bremerton into the City then walked around Pike's place and enjoyed the sights and food. We ate the best Fish and Chips at Jack's Fish Spot. Another highlight of Seattle was going to the Sky View Observatory. It was the best sight of Seattle I have ever seen!

Saturday morning we headed to George, WA for the Jack Johnson Concert! We stopped at Snoqualmie Falls and the North Bend Outlets on the way there to kill some time. There was a resort near the falls that was displaying some Ferrari's and other fancy cars. Mike really enjoyed that;)

The concert was amazing! Pretty much ever since we've met we decided if we had to pick one concert we wanted to go to together, it would be Jack Johnson. We were right in front of the stage in the pit and had a really good view! It was pretty rough driving another hour to my Grandparents house after the concert because we were pooped! The next morning after going to church, we headed back down to Utah and brought my Grandma Barnes with us so she could visit my Family in Bountiful for a few days. This vacation was a lot of traveling and driving, but we were able to see so many sights and create so many memories!

#PRINCEofPEACE

Michael and I went to Bountiful to spend Easter with my Family which is always a good time. Easter always means Spring is here and that I've made it through yet another winter (I hate snow. And cold.)

I want to write my thoughts and my personal testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ. Becuase of his Atoning Sacrifice, I have a lot of hope for my future in this life and beyond. I love the lyrics to this song. It perfectly describes why I am grateful for Him.

He is the One

He can make the ocean dry, he can stay the setting sun.
Creator of the Earth and sky, He is the one.
He can tame the raging wind, make the mountains tremble.
Master of miracles, He is the one.

He is the one who carves my heart into smoother stone.
He is the one that gives me strength when I am too weak to move on.
He's everything I need, mighty power and holy peace.
He is the one.

He can calm the restless soul, he will save the fallen stranger.
A refuge where my heart can go, He is the one.
He offers saving grace in a world that offers none.
And I will live to sing his praise. He sees me for what I can become.

He is the one who carves my heart into smoother stone.
He is the one that gives me strength when I am too weak to move on.
He's everything I need, mighty power and holy peace.
He is the one.

During Easter weekwnd, we dyed and foiled eggs. As you can see, only the "E" survived of my name because it was a trickier proccess than expected.

One of the funniest/best things about the weekend was that Emma planned a 'tea party' for us to have on Easter, but only Me, Kenley, and Dallin were invited. We made some "tea" which consisted of mystery leaves found in the garden, boiled in water with lemon juice and honey. We are pretty sure they weren't poisonous; at least I'm still alive right now. Also, we are pretty sure the mystery leaves were lemon basil. We had finger sandwiches, cheeto puffs, and frozen chocolate dipped banana pops. And this all went down about an hour before Easter dinner.

I'm grateful for the beautiful weather and time spent with family. It was a much needed break to get me through to summer. Now, only about a month left of school days!

Dallin

Last week I took some of Dallin's senior pictures while on spring break with my family in Moab. I can't even believe this handsome boy is so old! He'll be coming to Provo this summer to attend BYU and be leaving on a mission soon after. I can't even believe it 😭 #proudsis

Hello Provo: Waffle Love

Waffle Love

Price: around $5-10/waffle

You have never had a waffle until you've tried one from Waffle Love. They are NOT just your plain 'ol Sunday morning at the continental breakfast waffles. Waffle Love prides themselves in making authentic Belgian liege waffles that are crispy, fluffy, sweet, and deliciously topped. Nutella, fresh berries, Biscoff butter, fried ice cream, whipped cream,  dulce de leche, and lemon curd are just a few of the many toppings to choose from. Waffle Love often has $5 specials where you can get one of their specialty waffles for a discounted price.

The atmosphere is super fun, they always play the best music, and their bathroom is really cute too! Haha.

Here is a link to the Waffle Love menu.

Another really cool thing about Waffle Love is the merchandise and adorable prints you can purchase in store or online. Overall, it does seem a little spendy just for a single waffle, but I assure Waffle Love does not disappoint!

This is post two in the series HELLO PROVO, where I review different restaurants and locations in Provo, UT.

14 days of Valentines Day

I wanted to do a little something each day in February leading up to Valentines Day for Mike this year. Don't you think small acts of service are a lot more meaningful than one large gift? I had a lot of fun coming up with little surprises and hiding them around the house! In no particular order here they are!

1. Leave a message on the bathroom mirror.
2.Your're the HIGHLIGHT of my life Valentine. (Highlighters)
3. You have O-FISH-ALLY stolen my heart. (Swedish Fish)
4. Thank you for always going the EXTRA mile for us. (Extra Gum)
5. Heart attack his closet.
6. Thanks for STICK'N with me. (Slim Jim beef stick)
7. Decorate a Couples Appreciation Journal (I found mine at the Dollar Tree)\
8. Life would SUC without you Valentine. I found succulents here.
9. My heart is BURSTING with joy when I'm with you. (Starbursts)
10. What's COOKIN good LOOKIN? (BYU Football Cookbook)
11. Make homemade fortune cookies with handwritten fortunes. Mine are not pictured because the recipe was a fail. Tasty, but not pretty I guess. It's the thought that counts though right?
12. Fold his laundry.
13. Send him a love note/poem.
14. Do the dishes or {insert chore that HE hates doing}.

Hello Provo: Main Street Pizza

I am going to start a series of blog posts called HELLO PROVO where I review different restaurants and businesses in Provo! I love living in this area because there are so many unique businesses and fun places to eat!

Main Street Pizza

Price: $

We loved Main Street Pizza! We have actually been there a few times. It is actually a pizza buffet, but a little more "high class" or "hip" than your typical pizza buffet. They have a pretty good salad bar, some unique pizza toppings and some delish dessert pizzas. My favorite is the blueberry cheesecake. The pizza crust they use for most of their pizzas is definitely a thicker, chewier crust, so its probably not for the thin crust pizza fan. The real star of their pizzas are the unique topping combinations. They also use quality ingredients for their toppings. The chicken on several of their pizzas is SO good.
It is a very reasonable price (especially if you have a 2 for 1 coupon). On Friday nights when we have gone it has been a little cramped/busy, but overall it is really good experience and definitely worth the price.

Zoom Zoom

We have spent HOURS, that probably amount to DAYS looking for a car on KSL over the last few months, but over Thanksgiving break we finally test drove this Mazda Tribute and took the plunge. We finally have the licence plates, title, an extra key, and the remote working. #adultingishard #adultingisexpensive It was a little frustrating and annoying looking around and spending our Thanksgiving searching the web for cars, but I'm so glad we finally found a perfect match. The few times I've had to drive to/from work in the snow, 4 wheel drive has been a blessing! Remind me why I live in Utah again!?
